Rajapaksa will go to court in Sri Lanka

  • The court of directors should not act like a Prime Minister

The Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has suffered a stiff challenge. The Sri Lankan court on Monday ordered that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa should not be held by him. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was appointed and replaced by President Sirisena Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister.

With this development, a constitutional crisis in the country, 122 MPs approached the court challenging the powers of the Prime Minister and his cabinet colleagues. Rajapaksa and his cabinet colleagues, who were prosecuted for their appeals, had issued a temporary order. The next hearing on the case will be held on 12th and 13th of this month.
